I am a technical writer in Massachusetts. Sentence diagrams are a waste of time for 8th graders, or is it 7th graders? That's unless you're going to be a school teacher. Linguistics is interesting, but I never studied it. I do like etymology. Every now and then I'll look up a word to find its roots... kinda like people do for themselves on that Ancestry site. One of my biggest regrets: not studying Latin. Best excuse: my institutes of learning didn't offer it. Oh yeah, then I wagered my time that programming languages would be a better bet, less dead. My favorite book is 50 Shades of Grey.
